Position summary:
The Streator Public Library is seeking an energetic, and enthusiastic full-time director. This position is under the general supervision of the library Board of Trustees and serves as the administrator of the library. The director is responsible for coordination of the annual budget, authorization of expenditures, and library operations.

Responsibilities: Inform and report to the Board on library activities and trends in the field. Advise the Board on policy and procedural matters in the furtherance of library goals and objectives, making recommendations to the Board for its consideration. Attends library board meetings, conferences, and other continuing education activities. Assist the board with fundraising and oversee grant writing activities in furtherance of library roles, goals, and objectives. Help the board develop and then implement a long-range plan, particularly addressing facility needs and expanding library services. Participate in local community activities in promotion of library services and projects. Work closely and cooperatively with various Friends of the Library to promote library services. Oversee the marketing of library services and creation of educational programs. Monitor activities and services; such as materials acquisitions, programs, hiring, training, evaluating and when necessary, disciplining of staff; supervising and assigning job responsibilities; and taking positive steps for encouraging and maintaining staff productivity and morale. Negotiate contracts for, and oversee services provided by workers on contracts such as snow removal, grant writing, security, legal services, insurance, auditor, architect, etc. Address significant patron concerns, complaints or suggestions. Supervises department heads and various other employees including finance, IT, HR, maintenance, safety, and security. Other duties as needed or assigned by the Board of Trustees. Skill and abilities Ability to effectively lead a team while still performing the essential functions of the job. Ability to listen and communicate clearly and concisely with employees and community members. Extensive knowledge of business management, preferably in a library setting, to understand facility operations, functionality, and tasks of employees. Excellent organizational skills and time management for overseeing projects, meeting deadlines and accountability of staff. Ability to delegate and allow freedom for employees to complete tasks. Ability to lead with creativity, innovation, vibrancy, and optimism. Ability to support a culture of respect, honesty, integrity, and empathy Stand out skills associated with the job post Bibliographic Instruction, Circulation, Integrated Library Systems, Library Instruction, Library Research, Local Government, and Public Policy Salary to be determined based upon education and experience.
